Immensely Pleased :)

3 months ago, I didn't even know this world existed. I was just happily chugging some Reed's wondering how it's made, and the ingredients didn't seem crazy. Google lifted the veil, nay, kicked the door WIDE open, and here I am.

I bought this kit a little less than 3 months ago, in February 2024. There's definitely a trick to getting the flavor you want, and since only you know what that flavor is, you have to do some work to figure out how to get there. The good thing is that you go from brewing to drinking in about 8-14 days depending on...a lot of things. You'll see.

The utensils in the kit are just what you want to get started. Don't be afraid to buy some extra hair nets (elastic organic cloth jar cover) because all it takes is a stray slosh and it's better to swap it out.

The grains were gorgeous when I got them. I got two great brews out of them, I've stored them in the fridge, I've had to do the "bad smell" cleanse in clean spring water in the fridge, and the first brew (I'm now using that old UK recipe at the bottom of the guide) after the cleanse smelled and tasted GREAT before bottling. I'm very excited to see the result, but the bottles have to sit for another few days.

I'm currently brewing a little over a gallon at a time and scaling up took some learning but it's definitely worth all the effort. This stuff is really cool, and now instead of drinking sugary Reed's all the time, I'm drinking an organic, fresh, probiotic, sugary ginger brew. It's still got the sugar but it's got a ton of great gut stuff in there.

This kit is $30. You WILL spend more than $30 because this is just a starter kit and you will need at least some other stuff like bottles. We're not talking about that other stuff though, just this $30 kit. It's well worth it. Put a strainer, bamboo spoon, mason jar lid, and fermometers in your Amazon cart and you'll see what I mean. You get all that stuff AND the ginger beer plant grains.

One of nature's wonders

What a wonderful plant!
Since there's no Celtic or Himalayan salt here in our country, I used a local equivalent of Concentrace drops, called Bischofite - and it worked wonders! The grains are growing like crazy, - producing a remarkably tasty and healthy drink in the process.
I have put them in a mesh fermenter, thus separating the grains nicely from the ginger sediment, and they seem to appreciate it.

According to Martinus Beijerinck, the grains were brought by the British soldiers while returning to their country from the Crimean War in 1855. So now here in Ukraine, they complete the long journey home.
Thank you for sustaining and propagating this fantastic culture!

Get the kit, it's (probably) worth it

The grains: Five stars. Lively, kicky, delicious. They were up and running in no time and were already multiplying by the third batch.

The kit: Four stars. It made getting started really painless, and it's a good value. I absolutely loved the jar cap, and I was surprised by how much I like having the stick-on thermometer. I was less impressed by the strainer--the size is awkward and the mesh is a little coarser than the smallest GBP grains. On the other hand, it works fine and you need one. As for the spoon, it's good quality, but you probably have one already. If I were designing the kit, I'd swap the spoon for an Asian-style ginger grater, which would be helpful for folks who don't have blenders.

Overall: One thousand stars for value, service, and the luxury of starting from live healthy grains . . . and another million for making real GBP available to the public. I will buy all my cultures from you from now on.

Excellent, my taste buds are very very happy!

I became curious about ginger beer from reading novels set in England. It seemed non or little alcohol product. I found store bought and fell in love with it. Store bought is hard to find. I didn't realize that I could have home brewed it. I discovered this site and information while researching kefir. It's so easy to brew. My first batch was perfect. The fizz and bite are what I expected. The grains arrived in good condition. The instructions and what to expect while brewing are clear easy to follow. When I get the hang of this I plan to have lots of ginger beer on hand! I strongly recommend giving this a try. I just love it. I did add a slight change. I had planned to use boiled tap water for this and my water kefir. I used half cup of the boiled water to grind fresh organic ginger in blender. Strained and mixed sugars as recommended. When cooled, I followed this site directions. I love this ginger beer. I found bite perfect. My daughter thought it was a bit strong. That didn't stop her from drinking it! I'm going to have to keep some on hand for her too.
